Walk in Love

The Way

"Who seeks for Heaven alone to save his soul
may keep the path, but will not reach the goal;
While he who walks in love may wander far,
yet God will bring him where the blessed are."

-- Henry van Dyke

Quality Time

Words of affirmation, receiving gifts, quality time, acts of service or physical touch, which one is your primary love language?

I have learned about Dr. Gary Chapman's five love languages from his interviews and also from our cell group meetings. It is interesting to know that people have different love languages, and you can speak their love languages to connect with them or improve your relationships with them.

I've found out that quality time has become more and more people's primary love language, especially for those who are feeling lonely, depressed or rejected. They need lots of love and caring, but most of all, they want other people to spend time with them, even just sit down and talk to them or listen to them.

"Time is, at its core, a gift of love. Every night on the radio, I encourage my listeners: 'Love someone.' One of the easiest ways to show someone how much you love them is to give them your time. The time we spend with others, the small moments we share in our busy lives, are the most precious gifts we can give or receive. But even more important, you must know that time is always passing. When you fully understand this, you'll never let a moment of it get away from you without making sure you're caught in the act of giving love to someone. It can't wait until tomorrow."

Will you give this precious gift of love to those who you love today?

"When you see an opportunity to share your time with others—your parents, your children, or the stranger you run into on the street—I hope you'll embrace it passionately, giving your time freely and enjoying it to the fullest."

"If you knew this were your last day, what would you do?"

If there is no tomorrow, would you tell your love ones how much you love and appreciate them? Would you tell them all the things that you have been storing in your heart now?

If we still have tomorrow, could we spend some time together? Could we share our hearts with each other, and maybe sing a song together? :) I don't want to wait till the last day, I want to give you my time and my love today.

"Time runs out. But love never ends. It is the only truly renewable resource—you make more by giving it away. We don't have all the time in the world... not in this world, anyway. Even if you have faith in the next world, as I do, you must feel the same urgency I do. We've all wasted time, withholding love... or denying it, or mistaking something else for love. When you finally learn what love is, as I have, you don't want to spend another minute without filling every second with love. Love someone. Start today."

Compassion Without Restraint

"When the Lord saw her, His heart went out to her and He said, 'Don't cry.'" (Luke 7:13)

"Usually the words come from one who can't stand to see the hurt because she is powerless to help. Christ, on the other hand, is never helpless. When He said, 'Don't cry,' He meant, 'Not only do I hurt for you, but also I'm going to do something about the cause of the hurt."

"Jesus ran into a woman in hopeless despair and just reacted with what came most naturally to Him - healing mercy."

Jesus said, "Don't cry," He knows and understands what you are going through, and He is here to help you. He is full of mercy and love, and He has the mighty power to change the situation for you!

"No pacing, waiting, or wondering. No garbled nonsense from a patient slowly regaining consciousness. Jesus said, 'Get up!' and the dead man did. Instantaneously."

"Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." (Psalm 90:14)

Why does God need us?

I didn't understand before why did God say that He needs me? He is the One who created me, and He is the almighty God, who can do anything! Nothing is impossible for Him, so why does He still need me?

I've learned that the reason why He says: "With God all things are possible." is because He loves us and wants to give us opportunities to work with Him and experience things together!

I've also learned that He has already given us the authority on earth, so He needs us to release the authority and accomplish His works.

But then I realized that God never said: "I love You because I need You." He says: "I need you, just because I love you."

"Immature love says: 'I love you because I need you.' Mature love says: 'I need you because I love you.'" — Erich Fromm

This is a new song that I sang and wrote yesterday. May you be blessed by God's wonderful love, and know that you are the one He desires. He loves you and He needs you!

"Lord why do You say that You need me?
You are the almighty God.
What are the things that You cannot do by Yourself?
So do You really need me Lord?

You kissed my lips and said You love me.
I am the one You desire.
No one could ever replace me in Your heart.
That's why You need me so much."

Reasons to Love

Have you ever wonder why do we have to love one another?

Last week I kept thinking about this question. We all knew that it is the command of God for us to love each other, but sometimes when you were tired of loving some people, or tired of being in some situations, could you still love them, even with the frustrations and disappointments?

God always knows how to answer our question in the ways that could touch our hearts, and this time He has answered me by two great news. Last Friday night during the Christmas party, I got the news that one of my friend is pregnant, and they are going to have a new member in their family soon! Then that night after I went home, I got another great news that a girl who joined one of our cell groups recently has accepted Christ after the Christmas party! I was really excited and happy for my friends, and the joy has even refreshed my heart. It is so wonderful to see these new lives! It reminds me that new life coming to this world or entering into the Kingdom of God because of God's love and also the love from the people around them. And this is one of the reasons why we have to love.

God has also answered my question by reminding me His love and faithfulness, and the things that He has done for me this year. Every time when He shown me how great He is, I could not question anymore but rest in His love and faithfulness. "We love because He first loved us." (1 Jn 4:19) God is love, and He is the ultimate reason why we have to love.

Maybe sometimes God feels frustrated and disappointed with us too, but He has never and will never give up on loving us. I am thankful that He is the God who "will not grow tired or weary" (Is. 40:28), He loves us with an everlasting love.

"Father, I can't explain this kind of love, this kind of grace. I know, I still break Your heart and yet You run to welcome me.

This is my song of praise to You, for who You are and all that You do. From the moment my life began, You have been faithful. You have been faithful, forever faithful... Father." (Faithful Father, by Brian Doerksen)
