Last week while we were worshipping at the Sunday Service, we sang about the beauty of the Lord: "You are beautiful beyond description; too marvelous for words, too wonderful for comprehension, like nothing ever seen or heard. Who can grasp Your infinite wisdom? Who can fathom the depth of Your love? You are beautiful beyond description, Majesty enthroned above."
It was so wonderful to gaze upon His beauty. And it was true that: "Holy God, to whom all praise is due, I stand in awe of You." (I Stand in Awe, by Mark Altrogge)
I used to wonder why the Bible said: "He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him." (Isaiah 53:2) I thought He must be the most beautiful One in the whole world! So it was difficult for me to imagine that He was not attractive... But then God suddenly opened my eyes to see His true beauty! It was His glory, His love and His identity that shine out the beauty! We would not be able to see His beauty until we could see who He is and what is in Him.
I know this is also how God sees us. We are precious in His eyes, because we are His sons and daughters, and He sees the love and desire in our hearts. "The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7) God loves us with His unconditional love, so He said: "All beautiful you are, my darling; there is no flaw in you." (Song 4:7)
May you see the beauty of the Lord today, and realize how precious you are in His eyes!
"You opened my eyes to your wonders anew, You captured my heart with this love, because nothing on earth is as beautiful as You." (Beautiful One, by By The Tree)
